Estradiol-17 ß is the most potent natural estrogen. It is a steroid hormone with a M.W. of 272.4. From the onset of puberty, estradiol is
secreted cyclically by the granulosa and the maturing follicle cells. After ovulation, estradiol is secreted by the corpus luteum.
During pregnancy, estradiol and other estrogens are produced in increasing amounts by the placenta.
