Coloplast, which was founded in Denmark in 1957, was an outcome of a determined Danish nurse and an engineer. A couple years earlier, in 1955, Nurse Elise Sorensen was struggling to come to terms with the life her sister as well as many other of her patients had been relegated to. Her sister had developed colon cancer and underwent colostomy surgery. In those times, having an ostomy meant not only physical limitations, but also possible social rejection.
Coloplast Corp. in the United States has its headquarters in downtown Minneapolis, Minnesota.
